- Keep the ball close – Before performing a soccer move the ball must be under close control. Soccer moves require sharp changes of direction away from defensive pressure. Taking even 1 or 2 steps to get the ball before turning will result in lost possession when you are in crowded areas.
- Be decisive – Players should decide what soccer move to perform and then follow through. Hesitation and second guessing one’s self will result in lost possession.
- Accelerate away – After a player performs a soccer move they must accelerate away from the defender.
Soccer moves can be used for penetration or possession. A soccer move used for penetration will result in the player dribbling the ball behind a defender and getting in behind the opposition back line. A player who can penetrate the opposition off the dribble is a valuable asset to his or her team, and a dangerous threat to the opposition.
