As soccer coaches time, facilities, budget, equipment and sometimes know how are all contributing factors to not doing a structured strength training program. It’s difficult to get the team together at a gym to lift weights 3-4 times in the offseason. During the season the kids have school and homework obligations that take them away from extra strength training work.


 

Long Distance Running is Bad for Soccer

I admit this is possibly going to be a tough one for some athletes. This does not include just soccer. It’s easy on the brain to go out and run 30 minutes. It doesn’t require much planning you don’t need to figure out how many reps.


 

Injury prevention for soccer

Injury Reduction is one of the two primary goals of training. The other goal of training being improve performance. If your only goal is performance improvement your chances of getting injured multiply.


 

Lift heavy to get fast

Do not lift weights for soccer strength training that are between 10-20 reps all the time. In other words because people think soccer is an aerobic sport their strength training must match all the running done in soccer.
