Soccer Fitness Training
I admit this is possibly going to be a tough one for some athletes. This does not include just soccer. It’s easy on the brain to go out and run 30 minutes. It doesn’t require much planning you don’t need to figure out how many reps. You just go out and run 30 minutes. But why is this bad.
Reasons long distance running is bad
- It can make you slower- I believe the body adapts to the demands put on it. If you lift heavy you will get stronger. If you run long distances, long distances will get easier. But running long distances will make your muscles good at running long distances. And what types of muscles are needed to run long distances? Slow Twitch fibers.
- It does not train the muscles the way they are used in soccer. Soccer muscles start, stop, cut, sprint, and jump alll the time. A long 30 minute run does not train the muscles for this type of activity.
You find me a soccer game that is straight running for 90 minutes straight or 3 minutes straight for that matter and I will retire (Not really). It does not happen. Soccer is a sport built by a bunch of sprints followed by jogging and walking and more sprints. If this is soccer stop doing long 30 minute runs.
Action Plan
Start to include interval training in your routine. Do more ladders, Tempo runs etc. Remove old outdated long distance running.
