FIFAs Injury Prevention Proram
FIFAs injury prevention program is designed to reduce injuries for soccer players. Its a great resource for all involved in soccer. The resource is made up of 3 main parts.
Part 1-Running Exercises. This contains 6 different running exercises each done with a different technique and method.
Part 2-Strength, Plyometrics and balance are the focuses here. This section will take you through core exericses, hamstring exercises, two leg and single leg squats. Then you go through jumping exercises working different angles.
Part 3-Running Exercises-Here you pump up the pace. There are bounding exercises and agility.
Use this program to reduce injuries in yourself, a team if you are a coach or your child who plays soccer.
Injury Prevention or Reduction?
It depends on how you look at it. Of course we want to prevent injuries but that is not always possible. Freak accidents happen in the course of a game or practice that you can't do anything about. From this standpoint we call in reduction. In essence we are trying to limit the number of injuries.
On the other hand we are trying to prevent the injuries you have control over. In the end it does not matter what you call it. The key is to use the injury prevention programs given to us by organizations like FIFA or the PEP program. The hard part as a player is injury prevention is not the glamorous aspect of training we all think about. We all want to be fast, agile and jump high. But I urge you to be patient and use the FIFA injury program as outlined.
Not being able to play, go to college are both reasons enough to spend time on injuries. But also the long term affect of injuries is important to consider.
