5-3-2 Soccer Formation
This formation is built with five defenders in the back, only three midfielders and two strikers up top.
Because of the way the 5-3-2 is situated it provides a lot of width along the back line. Five defenders is alot to put in the back and because of this their role is more than just defending the back net.
That thing that comes with this formation is the use of a sweeper. But with the sweeper comes new responsibilities and awareness. Players must know the offside situation changes with a sweeper. Because its critical to understand different roles for each position in this formation while you learn, I've provided a few tips below that should help.
Here
are the tips broken out by position:
Midfielders
Midfielders should have the skill and ability to win the ball. Another key aspect is the ability to pass for possession.
Defenders
With five in the back the defenders are more than defenders. Full backs in the 5 3 2 formation can push forward to provide width in the attack.
Forwards
Two forwards up top give allow for one forward to check for ball to feet while the other striker can stretch the defense (backline).
